Glendene School is a state co-educational contributing primary school located in Henderson,WaitakereCity.

The school comprises fourteen available teaching spaces, a library, an administration area (offices, storage, staffroom, sick bay, and staff toilets), a dental clinic, a storage garage, a caretaker’s shed and an implement shed/boiler room. We have two attached personnel; a Social Worker and a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour, sited at GlendeneSchool in Room 14.  (We share these personnel with other schools.)

Other features of the physical environment are large paved areas, a sizeable playing field, two adventure playgrounds, shade structures, a fitness trail, an outdoor stage and a swimming pool.  The school also has a School and Community Hall on site which is used by the school, local Church groups and other sports groups.

Two satellite classes from Arohanui School are sited at Glendene School.  The units are located adjacent to each other in Rooms 12 and 13 in classrooms with purpose built laundry and toilet facilities.  We enjoy close liaison with the Arohanui team, which facilitates mainstreaming and ‘buddy system’ opportunities.

In 2010 the Lupesina O Samoa Pre School was opened on site as a bi-lingual pre school – again we welcome opportunities for interactions and cooperation with the Lupesina.

The school opened in February 1966 and gradually built to a roll of 754 in 1978.  Since then the roll has dropped to the level it is today, around 160 – 180 students.

A significant factor in the school’s roll is the number of migrant families settling into the area.  This has resulted in a wide mix of cultures being represented in the school, many of whom speak English as a second language.

We encourage and value parental involvement and community participation in the school and its various related activities.  Parents/caregivers are involved in the school through classroom assistance, school events and celebrations, providing transport, coaching sports teams and representation on our BOT and/or our Parent Support Team.   We enjoy our links with parents and families as we encourage Home /School partnerships to ensure that every student can achieve standards of personal excellence, especially in Numeracy and Literacy.

The school grounds and buildings are well cared for with an ongoing plan for maintenance and improvement, funded by the Ministry of Education and locally raised funds.  We have a landscaping plan so that we can continue to improve our grounds and facilities based on this plan.

Our School is also well equipped with teaching resources that meet the needs of our children and these are being constantly upgraded and replaced through careful budgeting of operational grants and locally raised funds.
